One of the samurai residences along the street that retains the atmosphere of Shiroishi Castle has been dismantled and repaired, and is now open to the public. The samurai residences remain along Sawabata River to the north of Shiroishi Castle. The former Koseki house is the residence of a middle class family, and the inside of the house is open for tours.
It is confirmed that the house was built in 1730 by the Koseki family, vassals of the Katakura family, lords of Shiroishi Castle. It was restored to its original appearance in 1991 when the main house, gate, and walls were contributed to Shiroishi City, and in 1993 it was designated as a cultural property by Miyagi Prefecture. The house stands in the north of Shiroishi Castle, surrounded by dense garden trees along the Sawabata River.
