Matsushima Rikyu

A new landmark in Matsushima

Architecturally designed based on the design of the “Matsushima Park Hotel” that existed in Matsushima Park in the Taisho and Showa eras, the building offers a rooftop spot overlooking Matsushima Bay and a variety of experience programs.

The two-story commercial facility is divided into a paid area consisting of the rooftop, garden, museum, and Rikyu Hall, where workshops are held, and a free area with stores, restaurants, and Starbucks Coffee. The Rikyu Hall offers daily workshops, such as Kokeshi doll painting, and kimono rentals.

A tourist and commercial facility in Matsushima, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots. The view from the rooftop offers an unprecedented panoramic view of Matsushima Bay. There are also various workshop corners including Kokeshi dolls, crafts from the prefecture, and workshops for children are held regularly. A tourist information center with interpreters on duty is also available for anyone who needs advice on sightseeing.

The facility is also recommended as a place for families to relax and have fun without any supplies, with water play and BBQs available.

In addition, visitors can spend a relaxing time by the sea at the café, which opens daily from 7:00 a.m., enjoy shopping for souvenirs that can only be purchased here, or try a meal at the restaurant, which focuses on local ingredients.

The “Miyagi Matsushima Rikyu” opened in Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. Facilities include the “Rikyu Garden,” landscaped in the motif of Matsushima’s elegant scenery, the “Miyagi Matsushima Rikyu Museum,” where visitors can learn about the history of Matsushima, and the “Picnic in the Sky,” a viewing spot with a spectacular view of Matsushima Bay. In the hands-on program, parents and children can enjoy painting kokeshi dolls.
At night, visitors can enjoy lighting up events and projection mapping in collaboration with NAKED.
