This history museum recreates the tumultuous life of Date Masamune with famous scenes using more than 200 life-size wax dolls that convey delicate facial expressions.
Life-size wax figures reproduce famous scenes
The life of Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai domain, is reproduced in 25 famous scenes from the tumultuous life of Masamune Date, using more than 200 life-size wax figures.
One of the scenes includes the sending of Shikura Tsunenaga to Europe.
Also on display are dioramas of the townscape of Kyoto in the Warring States period, rural scenes, and construction work, and wax dolls of great figures born in Tohoku such as Osamu Dazai, Kenji Miyazawa, and Hideyo Noguchi are among the highlights.
Masamune Parfait and Kokeshi Doll Painting Experience
Inside the museum, visitors can enjoy a “Masamune Parfait” and an extra-large “Sengoku Parfait,” both of which are based on the image of the helmet of the feudal lord Masamune.
There is also a store where visitors can try on Date Masamune’s black lacquer armor, “Gohaido Gusoku,” and paint koma and kokeshi dolls.
After experiencing the history of Date Masamune, enjoy a relaxing time with delicious sweets and traditional handicrafts.
