Miyagi » Kesennuma, Ishinomaki
The museum exhibits the world of manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. There is also a library of books and videos, and a corner where visitors can create their own manga and anime.
This is the memorial hall of Shotaro Ishinomori, a cartoonist known for “Masked Rider” and other works. It was built on the site of a former private home near his birthplace. Manga is called “yorozuga” (meaning “many pictures”). The “Manga Manifesto” describes manga as a medium with endless possibilities that is loved and familiar to everyone’s tastes. From the memorial hall and the streets of Ishimori, visitors can experience the Manga culture that Mr. Shotaro Ishinomori aimed for.
The museum exhibits the works, treasures, and favorite items of Ishinomori, who created numerous masterpieces such as “Masked Rider” and “Cyborg 009,” as well as a reproduction of a room in Tokiwaso. In addition, doodles from his childhood and his favorite books are on display in the “birth house” where he spent his childhood.
