The Minamisanriku 311 Memorial consists of a theater and art exhibits, as well as basic information about the Great East Japan Earthquake and testimonies of local residents to be passed on to future generations.
The theater will show documentary testimonials (programs) based on the experiences of Minamisanriku residents. Through this program, visitors can think about natural disasters as if they were themselves and learn about disaster prevention.
In the art exhibition, works by the late world-famous artist “Christian Boltanski” will be on display under the concept of “Living with nature is fragile, but it continues despite appearances.
From the observation deck on the second floor, visitors can see the Reconstruction Memorial Park, the Naka Bridge, and Shizugawa Bay, and check on the progress of the town’s reconstruction.
